MCAT Score Calculator

The MCAT total is the sum of four section scores, each from 118 to 132. If you have section scores — from an AAMC practice exam or an official result — enter them for the exact total and section average.

Formula

The total is a straight sum of the four scaled sections:
Total = Chem/Phys + CARS + Bio/Biochem + Psych/Soc (472–528)
500 sits at the center of the scale by design.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter each section score (118–132).
  2. Press Calculate.
  3. The total is the exact official arithmetic — no estimation involved at this step.

Worked example

Sections of 127, 126, 128 and 127.

  1. Add them: 127 + 126 + 128 + 127 = 508.

Result: The MCAT total is 508 — around the average for students who matriculate to medical school in recent cycles.

Frequently asked questions

How are section scores themselves calculated?

The AAMC converts each section’s raw score to the 118–132 scale using equating for that test form. That conversion is not published as a formula, which is why this calculator starts from section scores.

What is a competitive MCAT score?

It varies by school. Recent matriculant averages sit near 511–512 nationally, with the median of all test-takers near 500. Check the MSAR or school websites for program-specific figures.

Why does the scale start at 472?

Four sections × the 118 minimum = 472; the maximum is 4 × 132 = 528. The scale was designed so 500 is the midpoint.
