Results

Assumptions: ESTIMATE: score bands approximate recent released AP scoring patterns. Official cut scores are set by College Board each year and vary.

Formula

The two sections count roughly equally in the composite:
Composite % ≈ (MCQ% + FRQ%) ÷ 2
That percentage is then mapped to the 1–5 scale using bands drawn from recent released scoring worksheets.

Frequently asked questions

Why is this an estimate?

College Board sets cut scores after each exam based on difficulty and college comparability studies; the percentages are never fixed in advance. Recent BC exams have typically required roughly the low-60s percent composite for a 5.

What about the AB subscore?

BC report cards include an AB subscore based on the AB-topic questions. It needs the per-topic breakdown of your answers, which this calculator does not collect.

Is guessing penalized on the MCQ?

No — there is no deduction for wrong answers, so blank answers can only hurt you.
