Results

Assumptions: ESTIMATE: score bands approximate recent released AP scoring patterns. Official cut scores are set by College Board each year and vary.

Formula

The sections are weighted to count about equally:
Composite % ≈ (MCQ% + FRQ%) ÷ 2
The composite is then mapped to 1–5 using bands drawn from recent released scoring worksheets.

Frequently asked questions

Why is this an estimate?

Cut scores are set after each administration and are never published as fixed percentages. On recent AB exams, a 5 has typically required a composite in roughly the low-to-mid 60s percent.

How is the free-response section graded?

Six questions worth 9 points each, graded by trained readers against detailed rubrics — points are awarded for setup, method and answers, so partial credit is common and valuable.

Calculator or no-calculator sections — does it matter here?

For the composite estimate, no: only the totals matter. In the real exam, Parts A and B of each section differ in calculator policy, which affects strategy, not the arithmetic here.
