Frequently asked questions
When is time and a half legally required?
Under the US Fair Labor Standards Act, most non-exempt employees must receive at least 1.5× pay for hours over 40 in a workweek. Some states add daily overtime rules; salaried-exempt roles are generally excluded. This calculator does the arithmetic, not a legal determination.
What is double time?
Twice the regular rate (2×), sometimes required by state law, union contracts or company policy for holidays or very long shifts. Multiply the base rate by 2 and the hours for that portion.
Is this gross or net pay?
Gross. Taxes, benefits and other deductions depend on your situation and are not estimated here.
