How to use this calculator

- Enter the unpaid break in minutes.
- Set the number of identical days, and optionally an hourly rate, then Calculate.
Worked example
9:00 AM to 5:30 PM, 30-minute lunch, 5 days a week at $20/hour.
- Shift: 8.5 hours; minus break: 8 hours per day.
- Week: 8 × 5 = 40 hours.
- Pay: 40 × $20 = $800.
Result: 40 total hours and $800 gross pay.
Frequently asked questions
How are overnight shifts handled?
If clock-out is earlier than clock-in, the shift is assumed to cross midnight and 24 hours are added — the standard timesheet interpretation.
Do paid breaks get subtracted?
No — only unpaid breaks (typically meal breaks) come off. Short paid rest breaks stay in the total; enter only what should be deducted.
What about overtime?
This calculator totals straight time. For the overtime premium on hours over 40, use the Time and a Half Calculator for the extra hours.
