Mean Median Mode Calculator

Mean, median and mode are three different “averages,” and comparing them tells you a lot about a data set — including whether it is skewed. Enter your numbers once and get all three, plus the range, sum and count.

Formula

Each average answers a different question:
Mean = sum ÷ count · Median = middle value when sorted · Mode = most frequent value

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter your numbers separated by commas or spaces.
  2. Press Calculate.
  3. Compare the three averages: if the mean is much higher than the median, a few large values are pulling it up.

Worked example

Numbers: 3, 7, 7, 9, 10.

  1. Mean: 36 ÷ 5 = 7.2.
  2. Median: the middle value when sorted is 7.
  3. Mode: 7 appears twice, more than any other value.

Result: Mean 7.2, median 7, mode 7, range 7.

Frequently asked questions

Which average should I report?

For symmetric data they are nearly identical. For skewed data (incomes, house prices), the median usually represents the “typical” value best.

Can a data set have more than one mode?

Yes — if two values tie for most frequent, the set is bimodal. This calculator lists every mode.

What if no value repeats?

Then the set has no mode, and the calculator says so rather than inventing one.
