Worked example

Current grade 92%, final worth 20%, target 90% overall.

  1. Locked-in portion: 92 × 0.80 = 73.6 points.
  2. Still needed: 90 − 73.6 = 16.4 points from the final’s 20.
  3. 16.4 ÷ 0.20 = 82%.

Result: You need an 82% on the final to finish at 90%.

Frequently asked questions

What if the needed score is over 100%?

The target is mathematically out of reach even with a perfect final. The calculator shows your maximum possible grade so you can aim at the next boundary instead.

What if the needed score is negative?

You have already locked in the target — even a zero on the final keeps you at or above it. The calculator reports your guaranteed floor.

My final replaces my lowest test. Does that change things?

Yes — replacement policies change the current-grade input itself. Recompute your current grade with the replacement applied (or estimate it) before using this calculator.
